iPhone notifications are crucial. Putting aside commercial in-app and SMS notifications and bank and workplace apps is vital.
Let’s say you have a meeting but your phone hasn’t told you about it. Worst of all, someone used your credit card, but your phone didn’t tell you. In both cases, a timely message can change the whole picture.
After installing the iOS 16 update, several iPhone users have said that their notifications no longer work or can’t be seen. Also, the problem isn’t limited to one model of iPhone. Users of the iPhone 13, 12, 11, and 8 have all been affected.
People affected say apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, and others don’t send alerts.
So, don’t worry if the iOS 16 notification doesn’t work on your device. Instead, do the easy things discussed in this post.
16 Ways to Fix iOS 16 Notification Not Working on Your iPhone
Summary and Focus in Notifications make our lives easier. But, for different reasons, not everyone gets the most out of these settings. And if you’re one of them and the notifications on your iPhone aren’t working, here are some ways to fix the iOS 16 notifications not working:
1.Turn off “Focus” on your iPhone.
A great feature that will help you pay more attention to what you’re doing, whether it’s Netflix, work, relaxing, or sleeping. It could be because of the Focus if you aren’t getting notifications after the iOS 16 update. Before we do anything to fix the damage, let’s turn off Focus and see if the alerts start.
Step 1: From your lock screen, tap the Focus icon.
Step 2: Turn off the Focus that is currently on.
Control Center or Settings Focus can disable Focus Mode. Ask friends or relatives to text or email you after turning off the Focus to see if iOS 16 notifications are working.
2. Add exceptions to Focus.
When you set up a Focus, you must make exceptions for contacts and apps that might bother you during that Focus. Yes, that setting isn’t ideal, so let’s change it.
Step 1: Go to Settings > Focus and choose Focus.
Step 2: Tap People. Under “Allowed Notifications,” add the names of people from whom you want to receive calls, or tap “Calls From” and choose “Everyone.” Apps: Add the apps that are allowed and turn on Time-Sensitive notifications.
3. Turn off devices that can be shared.
Focus has many great features, one of which is that it can be turned on in all Apple ecosystems. But what if you don’t want to Focus on your iPhone but only on your Mac or iPad?
Fixing iOS 16 alerts not working involves:
Step 1: Go to Settings > Focus.
Step 2: Turn off Share Across Devices by clicking the radio button next to it.
4. Turn off the alert Summary.
To keep things from getting in the way, Notification Summary only lets time-sensitive alerts through. Alerts that aren’t urgent are automatically turned off and shown at a later time. And, even though it wasn’t made for it, it turns off all notifications. Let’s see what happens if we turn it off.
Step 1: “Settings” > “Notifications”
Step 2: Pick Summary on a Scheduled Date.
Step 3: To turn off Scheduled Summary, flip the switch next to it.
5. Check the settings for each app’s notifications.
When the problem is with a single app, like when you don’t get notifications from that app, you’ll have to look at each one separately to fix the iOS 16 notifications not working:
Step 1. Navigate to Settings and scroll down to the app.
Step 2. Select Notifications.
Step 3. Make sure the Allow Notifications switch is turned on.
Step 4: Choose either Immediate Delivery or Scheduled Summary.
Step 5: It is turned off if you don’t see the Scheduled Summary option. So, you can now move on to the next step.
6. Turn off airplane mode.
In Airplane mode, you can’t connect to the internet, make or receive phone calls or texts, or get notifications. From the Control Center, you can turn it off.
To turn off the plane:
Step 1: Pull down the Control Center from the upper right corner and tap the Airplane icon.
Step 2: If it’s already turned off, turn it on for a minute before turning it off again.
Step 3: Look to see if the problem is still there.
7. Turn off and on your iPhone.
If you’ve tried everything so far and the notifications still don’t show up, there could be a problem with the software. It could be a temporary bug or a problem with the system.
You should try turning your phone off and on again to see if that helps. To restart your iPhone, hold down the side button and one of the volume buttons until the power slider appears. After moving the slider to the right, wait for the device to restart.
8. Check your sound settings.
Check your iPhone’s sound settings if you don’t hear the notification when you get a message. First, select Sounds & Haptics in Settings. Then raise the alarm volume and alter the sound.
9. Turn off the automatic focus mode.
So you’re taking it easy now that the Focus mode has been turned off, and you know you’ll get text messages. But, surprise, your device was silent for several hours because the Focus is always on, not because you are so famous.
Hmm! So let’s also get that fixed.
Step 1: Go to Settings > Focus, then choose Focus.
Step 2: Under Turn On Automatically, tap Smart Automation, time, location, or place (depending upon automation previously set).
Step 3: Switch off the automation.
Note: You can also get to the Focus settings from the Lock Screen or Control Panel by tapping the three-dot icon next to Focus Settings.
10. Turn off the “Attention Aware” alerts.
This is another way for your iPhone to let you know about something. Attention Aware Alerts checks to see if users are paying attention before changing things like the screen’s brightness and the notification size. Simultaneously, lock the phone or adjust the notification volume. Do this:
Step 1: The iPhone’s Face ID and Passcode settings can be accessed in the Settings app.
Step 2: Type in your PIN.
Step 3: Move down the page until you see the option for Attention Aware Alerts. To turn it off, tap it
11. Not Always Able to Show Previews
Another trick has helped many people who had problems with iOS 16 notifications not working. If your iOS 16 device isn’t sending notifications, you may have turned off Always Show Previews in the Settings app by mistake. The small alerts from apps that appear on your iPhone’s screen are called “notification previews.”
Go to Settings > Notifications > Show Previews to try this out. A check mark should always be next to it.
12. Unblock an Individual or Group
If you have blocked someone on your phone, they won’t be able to send you texts. To remove someone from your blocked list, do the following:
Step 1: Tap the app called “Settings” on your iPhone and tap “Messages.”
Step 2: Choose “Blocked Contacts.”
Step 3: Swipe to the left of an entry and choose “Unblock.”
Step 4. Check if “Hide Alerts” is turned on for any of your conversations. Touch a conversation in the Messages list and hold it down. Check to see if the switch for “Hide Alerts” is on.
13. Check your Apple Watch’s settings for alerts.
If you have an Apple Watch, your text messages might go to that instead. Notifications appear here instead of on the watch when you unlock your iPhone. The notifications are sent to your wrist when you wear your unlocked Apple Watch while your iPhone is locked or sleeping. They won’t make the iPhone’s screen light up or play sounds. If you’d prefer to have app alerts on your iPhone, switch off Apple Watch notifications.
Step 1: Launch the Watch application and navigate to the “My Watch” page. Select Notification from the menu.
Step 2: Uncheck the box that says “Mirror in my iPhone.” If you are using Custom settings, tap the Notifications Off button.
14. Check to see if you are blocking messages from unknown senders.
iOS 16 can automatically block texts from people you don’t know and spam. So, there is a slight chance that you could miss important messages that contain the OTP or other valuable information. Setting > Messages > Unknown & Spam is where you can turn this feature off. Toggle the Filter Unknown Senders switch and set it to Off.
15. Update Your iOS
If your iPhone isn’t getting text message alerts, it could be because of an Apple bug. The company usually takes care of these kinds of apparent problems quickly. If so, you can fix the problem where your iOS 16 notifications aren’t working by updating the software on your device. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to do that.
16. Reset All Settings
In addition to forcing a restart, resetting all settings is a common way to fix problems. This option can be used for any problem, whether strange or familiar. This might also work for the problem with the alerts.
Step 1: Tap the Settings app and choose General from the menu.
Step 2: Tap the button that says Move or Reset iPhone.
Step 3: Click on Reset.
Step 4: Now, tap Reset All Settings to confirm. The problem with iOS 16 notifications should be fixed when this is done.
