It’s easy to make new folders in Google Drive for your documents and files. You can sort your files into folders on this great platform to keep them separate. Google Drive is a great way to keep all your important files in one place where they are safe, well-organized, and always accessible.

Doing it on the computer:
We hope you already have a Gmail account and have used Google Drive in the past. Make a Gmail account if you don’t already have one. It will not require more than a few minutes of your time.
- To open your browser, click here (Google Chrome is recommended). Use Google’s search bar to find Google Drive, or click on the nine-dot logo to bring up Google’s apps and find it there. Could you find it and open it there?
- After you open Google Drive in your browser, you will need to do so if you aren’t already logged in to your Gmail account.
- Next, look for a big white “+” button on the left side of your computer screen. When you find the button, click it lightly so that some new options appear.
- When you click on that button, you should be presented with a compact menu that drops down. There should be a wide range of choices. We are looking for the one that says “Create a folder”. This is the first one. It should be easy to find. If you find it, click on it.
- You’ll see a new window on your screen where you can give your folder a new name. Then, click the “Save” button.
You’ve just finished making a new folder on your Google Drive. To add new things to it, open the folder, click on the + button, and then on the option Upload files. After making your selections of the files, you wish to add, click the Open option. If you already have files on your Google Drive that you want to move to the folder, go to the Drive’s Home page, click and hold on the files you want to move, and then move your cursor to the folder you just made. Then let go, and the process of moving will begin.
Doing it on your mobile phone:
You must install an app on your phone before using Google Drive. If you have an Android phone, it should already be part of the system. If not, you can find the Google Drive app in the Google Play Store or the App Store, download it, and set it up.
- If you haven’t already, open the app and sign in to your Gmail account.
- Find the blue round “+” on your screen (it should be located at the bottom right side of your phone). Tap it to make the menu bigger.
- There will be a small menu bar. Look for the option to make a folder in it. There, that should be the first choice.
- Click on that option, and when a small window pops up, type the folder’s name into it.
- If you want to add more things to it, open it, click the + button again, choose the things you want to add and click the “Upload” button at the top of your screen.
